Well, in our days the work is more related to green energys because of the current concern for the environment. And we have an example very close to us, the work in the natural reserve in Berlengas done by the guards of the natural reserve.
-Flora and Fauna
The archipelago of Berlengas have some interesting features, which aroused the curiosity of naturalists in the nineteenth century.
.The scientific study of the flora of the islands began with the first shipment of botanist Jules Deveau, of the Society of Geography of Lisbon in August 1879.
.This pioneering work has provided the right to recognize the presence of 106 species of plants, but new species were discovered, eight in total:
- Pulicaria microcephala
- Armeria berlengensis
- Echium Davaei Rouy
- Andryala Ficalheana
- Crepis gaditana Boiss
- Angelica pachycarpa
- Melandrium sylvestre Rohl
- Sedum andegavense.
.The scientific observations made on the island also was used to inventory the species living there.
.The first species identified, of the family of the reptiles was the Largatixa of Bocage Carbonell Podarcis berlengensis and the Largato of Berlenga Lacerta lepida unique of the island and today is very rare.
.other species:
- The black rat (Rattus rattus)
- The rabbit Oryctolagus cuniculus
- The yellow leg seagull
- The Corvo-marinho-de-crista Phalacrocorax aristotelis
- The Airo Uria aalge
.Because of this whole life on the island of Berlengas is necessary protection, and is in this context that the guards enter with the following measures to ensure the balance of all species:
- From 1976 was not allowed the entry of other animals on the island eg dogs.
- The number of visitors has limitations
- Rehabilitation program to prevent the disappearance of the Lizard
- Breking seagulls eggs to prevent the explosive growth of the same
And much more...
In conclusion the work of these men is very important and without them many species of animals and plants disappear leading to a lack of knowledge of this species in the future.

I really enjoyed your post. I think it was a good idea to have the environment linked with the work, because these professions are very important for the preservation of our planet. Have also found interesting the case of specified Berlenga which is a nature reserve so close to us and is without doubt a reflection of good work by the guards of the nature reserve.
ResponderEliminarNever can we stress enough how important it is for us to preserve the environment.
ResponderEliminarSpecifically talking about Berlenga was a very smart thing to do, because this small island is a very important and diverse ecosystem which we have been threatening and polluting at an alarming rate.
Congratulations on a post well done!
